READING INFORMATION AND EXPECTATIONS

Library Book Information

Library Disclaimer: 

I have an extensive library available to middle schoolers only, in addition to the library available to them through the district. As with any library, I have not read all of the books. While I do not feel any of the books are inappropriate, each student has a different level of maturity and interest in certain topics. If a student checks out a book he/she is uncomfortable reading, then he/she can simply return it. Parents are encouraged to see what their student(s) are reading and monitor as needed. Some awesome websites that I used when selecting books for my library are linked below. Please use them! They have some valuable information and even provide great topics for discussion.

Common Sense Media: Their website states, “You know your kids. We know media and tech. Together we can build a digital world where our kids can thrive. Families and teachers everywhere trust Common Sense for expert reviews, objective advice, helpful tools, and so much more.” 

Scholastic Book Wizard: Book Wizard allows you to search for books based on the genre, grade level, or reading level system (for example, Accelerated Reader). Scholastic provides an appropriate grade level and provides ratings such as “mature content.”

AR Book Find: This website allows you to search for books based on the author, topics, subtopics, interest level, and so on. Even though Lyndon USD 421 does not use the Accelerated Reader program anymore, there are teachers who still want the students to read within specific ranges.
