High School Language Arts
My education includes four years at the University of Kansas where I graduated with a BGS majoring in Literature and Writing. From there I continued my education at Emporia State University where I completed coursework for licensure in secondary education.
I am certified to teach 6-12 English/Language Arts and have attained "highly qualified" status within the state of Kansas.
As my eighth year of teaching begins, I am excited to meet the new faces of incoming Lyndon High School freshmen and juniors, and I'm also thrilled to watch my seniors bring this journey to an end and to see the adventure that awaits them!
Prior to my current position at Lyndon High School, I spent my first five years teaching in the Marais des Cygnes Valley School District, two years teaching 6th-8th writing and 6th reading then three years teaching 9th-12th English Language Arts. My sixth year was spent in the Lebo-Waverly School district at the Waverly location teaching 9th-12th English Language Arts. Before my teaching years, I spent four years as a para working in the Lyndon district through Three-Lakes Educational Cooperative, and before that, I spent four years working in an alternative school in the Shawnee Mission School District.
When I'm not teaching, I still tend to stay busy. I love reading, so if you ever need a suggestion, come see me or check out ever-growing classroom library. I also love to listen to music, which if you have been in my classroom is quite apparent because I usually have some sort of music playing at all times. I also enjoy watching TV/movies. Some of my favorite shows include This Is Us, The Walking Dead, Jack and Ozzy's World Detour, and Grey's Anatomy. As for movies, I will give just about anything a try. Some of my faves that I repeatedly watch include The Family Stone, Pitch Perfect, and We Bought a Zoo. Some of my recent faves have been The Greatest Showman, Avengers: Endgame, Home Again, and Coco.
